The Philippines is a country renowned for the musical talent of its citizens. From historical musical geniuses like Nicanor Abelardo to some of the biggest names in the international music industry like Lea Salonga and Apl.d.ap of Black-Eyed Peas as well as many Filipino winners and finalists in various musical shows around the world, we Filipinos are known for our passion and love for music.
Unfortunately, this does not translate to an equal passion for original Pinoy music. Compared to the success of other music industries in Asia, such as Korea’s K-Pop, OPM still has a long way to go to attain worldwide commercial success.
It is good to know that OPM is currently undergoing a resurgence as many are once again looking at the local music scene, liking what they hear, and preferring to stay hooked on Pinoy music.
This resurgence is led by the Organisasyon ng Pilipinong Mang-aawit or OPM.
Eagle Broadcasting Corporation is a well-known supporter of Original Filipino Music and OPM. With its FM Radio arm, Pinas FM 95.5, EBC is supporting and giving a chance for OPM to shine, with the majority of its line-up composed of original Pinoy songs and talents.
As such, these two organizations are the perfect partners in bolstering the OPM industry.
To strengthen this partnership, EBC through its president Jorge A. Cabacungan, and OPM, represented by popular OPM artist Ogie Alcasid, recently signed a memorandum of understanding.
Hopefully, with this partnership, the survival and success of OPM for the next generation of Filipinos will be ensured and OPM will further gain a firm foothold in the music industry.
